Tangram Sofa
The Tangram Sofa is a modular sofa inspired by the popular dissection puzzle, Tangram. The puzzle consists of seven tiles called tans, which can be arranged to form a multitude of shapes. The Tangram Sofa has adapted these shapes for customizable lounge configurations.
This is an ongoing project. The main challenge is to make the sofa feel sturdy, but also easy to move and reconfigure. These two qualities compete and seem irreconcilable. I believe with further prototyping and experimentation, these issues can be resolved.
The objective of the tangram puzzle game is to replicate a complex shape from an outline or silhouetted image.
Every home is unique and comes with its own interior design complexities. The tangram concept enables adaptation to each living room’s “silhouette,” no matter how unconventional.
